The cost of caring for a pet is a warranted concern for most pet parents. Having pet insurance often leads to reduced stress when making decisions and ensures that patient care is not compromised for financial reasons. Human Healthcare in Australia is heavily subsidised by the Government via Medicare. Pet Health does not have these subsidises so vet bills can often catch pet parents off guard.

Pet insurance can help cover costs from unexpected accidents and illness, but specifics depend on the policy purchased.

Our clinic can provide factual information about insurance. There are different types of policies and companies so we encourage you to do your own research and due diligence to determine the type of policy that is best suited to your family.

Pet insurance works similarly to other types of insurance, there is usually an excess to pay when you make a claim, waiting periods and annual limits. The typical process includes:

Purchase a pet insurance policy and paying a monthly or yearly fee to maintain coverage.

Visit us at 4 Paws vet if your pet becomes sick or injured.

Settle the invoice with us directly at reception & provide us with your policy number & insurer. We will keep these details on file for the future.

Once the account is settled our lovely reception team will submit the claim on your behalf. We work with all Pet insurers and will make this as seamless as possible for you. We will provide them with the consult notes and invoices and they will in turn reimburse you (dependant on your policy) There are some providers who offer “Gap only” where the insurer pays the Clinic for the bulk of the bill and you are only responsible for the Gap.
